Placer County Health and Human Services is providing free tax assistance to eligible individuals and families, in cooperation with the IRS and United Way, through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA).

Last year we filed 280 returns and brought $377,357 in refunds back to our community.

File online with a virtual tax preparer ! Starting January 31, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., access GetYourRefund - Placer Free Tax Prep, an encrypted and secure online platform designed to help you file your taxes with ease.

Key Features

After clicking Get Started, select File taxes with help, and answer questions about your family and tax situation.
Use your phone to take clear photos of your tax documents for easy upload.
An IRS-certified VITA volunteer will contact you for an interview and quality review.
The platform is available in Spanish and supports over 120 additional languages for accessibility.

Drop-off appointments available in Auburn, Colfax, Foresthill, Lincoln, Rocklin, Roseville, and Kings Beach.
Appointment slots open during February and March 2025.
Call 2-1-1 to schedule your appointment starting at the end of January 2025.
